During my job offer, I was advised by an HR staff that I can already avail of my solo parent leave benefits even if I have yet rendered a year of service with the company. When I was 3 months with the company I requested to be on solo parent leave because my son was sick at the time. The company sent me an email stating that I cannot avail of the said leave yet because I still have to render a year of service with them. I have to let go of the argument since I understand that what was informed to me via email is aligned to what it is stated in the labor code. But then I found out that one of my team mates has already availed of her full 7 days solo parent leave benefit without her being able to render a year of service with the company. I have also found out that the company did not approve just one person of the said benefit but there were two of them. I felt so discriminated by this. Should they compensate me for the leaves I could have filed last year which I was not able to use because they have denied me of it?
